Description
With notes and an appendix by John Towill Rutt. This appears to be the 1833 printing of Priestley's Grammar, as published by Rowland Hunter and M Eaton, complete with original title page, bound up in 1840 with a new title page by printer John Smallfield. Smallfield declared bankruptcy later that year, suggesting that this initiative was unsuccessful. Priestley's work remains marvellous however, being the 1798 Rudiments of Grammar, adapted to the use of schools, augmented by lectures on the theory of language, given in Warrington in 1762,and oratory and criticism, given in London in 1777. Some toning and marking, but for the most part all in VG internal order. Handsomely bound in red half leather with red buckram boards and gilt on black titlepiece to spine. Small 4to, xii, 526pp
