Morgan drew on his own experience as a boxer to write this novel , delivering, according to the jacket blurb: "the smell of a work-out, the feel of sweat, and blood on the leather of a glove, the gut-tightening loathing of (and excitement by) the cheering, jeering crowd of cigar-reeking gamblers and their plastic-upholstered women".
