Scarce and well-illustrated study from Thurston, pioneering engineer and first Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology. Book is based on lectures given there during 1871-72 and extensively revised thereafter. All in general good order. Some pages have minor pencil notation and stock lightly toned throughout. Small (2cm) closed tear to title page. Former owner's name faintly in ink and in pencil to title. Front endpapers split at hinge, but all holding well. In Appleton's International Scientific Series.
