Description

A handsome and well preserved copy of The Homilies in this less common Oxford imprint of 1683. Volume runs from title page to Finis, complete, with additional 4pp of The 39 Articles Of Religion to rear. Chain of ownership from 1728 to 1977 is noted in various hands to fep. A short inscription is written at the head of the preface page, noting the edition. Minor ink notation to the Table Of The Sermons (ie. index), but no further marks or annotations. Text is in VG order with no tears or repairs, though some toning to stock as expected. There is some damp staining to the upper right corner from circa p.250 onwards, but this is not too intrusive. Minor worm damage with two small holes at foot of page running almost the entirety of the book. Heavy boards firmly bound in full leather, with five raised bands to spine and red leather titlepiece. Leather well worn, esp to edges, with some surface loss, but not unappealing and likely contemporary or nearso to publication. This is a charity sale for Friends Of Morston Church (reg.1099831). Folio. [6] 388pp [4].
