Description
Excellent two volume set, in VG internal order. All plates present as required and in general, clean, crisp and bright. Very little foxing or marking to text, and just a little light and uniform toning. Gilt to all edges. Title pages of both volumes give 1836 as publication date, earlier engraved titles offer 1842 and 1834 respectively for vols 1 and 2, suggesting original edition bound later. Contemporary blind embossed cloth with gilt titling to spines is worn, marked and faded, with heavy wear to spine edges. Bindings a little shaken and endpapers split, nevertheless a very handsome set. Bookplate of William Chauncey to front pastedowns. A heavy set, so please enquire about postage. 4to. V.1 viii, 696pp + publisher's ads; v.2 836pp.
