Description
Fascinating compilation of information returned by every functioning port in the UK (and many that had ceased commercial shipping activity) as a result of a 1901 House of Commons order. Ports were required to answer 11 questions, addressing recent works and investment, harbour dimensions, engineers' details, condition, income, type of trade, byelaws, etc. Thus providing a detailed snapshot of the UK's maritime status at the start of the 20th Century. Stock toned, but otherwise in good internal order. Half leather binding repaired with white tape. Boards heavily worn. This is a charity sale for Friends Of Morston Church (reg.1099831). Folio. 120pp + numerous blanks
