Description
Complete run of 60 issues of The Sporting Mirror, bound in 10 volumes, from No.1 dated February 1881 to No.60 in January 1886. Excellent and wide-ranging coverage of sports, events and personalities, well-illustrated with portraits. Mixed bindings, with seven in publisher's decorated cloth, the others assorted half leather. All show levels of wear but are in general good order throughout, bar vol.4 which is shaken and much repaired internally with tape. 8pp section in Vol.2 loose, and a few plates loose throughout run. Curiously, volume 3 has been bound without issue No.15, April 1882. This is provided as a separate single copy. In general, some foxing and spotting, but stock quality good, so this at a minimum. This is the set used by author and bibliographer Chris Harte to compile his authoritative history and bibliography of the magazine. Weight c.6.5Kg so please enquire re shipping. Additional photographs and further information on request.
