Description
First edition, later inscribed and signed by Stanton to first blank with one of his most famous verses (subsequently featured on his tombstone): "This world that we're a-livin' in / Is mighty hard to beat, / You get a thorn with every rose, / But ain't the roses sweet! Frank L Stanton, Atlanta, Feb 24, 1911". Stock a little toned to page edges, but otherwise all in VG internal order. Three small ink marks against titles in contents list. Endpapers splitting a little at hinges, but all holding firm. Gilt to top edge of block. Decorated green boards well worn, esp to head and foot of dulled spine, and lightly bumped to corners. Nevertheless a charming and unique copy of the future Georgia poet laureate's most significant volume. 12mo. xiv, 217pp + publisher's list.
